Plate making Empty Plate making

Post  photonius_bishopnash Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:29 pm

I'm a total noob in the field of armor construction, and I'm ghetto-rigging some plate together so I dont get my ass handed to me again. I've got so shoulder pads and a considerable amount of other material (sheet metal, cardboard, plastic, etc). Any tips on good construction and what points on my body need to be covered to maximize the output of my gear. thanks!

stay away from sheet metal unless you fold the corners and sides down to prevent sharp edges. use plastic if possible as that counts as plate. covering the chest and back give most credit (9 pts each). armor does not have to cover entire area to count as full coverage. a milk jug can be made into a helmet with duck tape.

i got the metal smothered in duct tape and made into some nice bracers and possibly greaves. my lower back and stomach are exposed since ive just got a pair of football shoulder pads. should i worry about covering that up or leave it? thanks

good start. cover your mid section and lower back. find some plastic pieces and rivet them to the pads, or get some fabric and sew poker chips into it and attach it to the bottom of the pads. other idea is to make shin gaurds simular fashion as the bracers.

also head gear is great (prevents waylay 3). if you have an old helmet pain it cool looking and use it. also on the shoulder pads paint them gray, black, silver, or other metal color

no problem. I learned from a lot of trial and a whole lot of errors. Smile

The up side of shoulder pads are the look awesome. The downside is they make a bigger target for packees and quick strick fighters.
